waiting for the ups guy

05.10.2005 - 1:34 p.m.

Well, just sitting here waiting for the UPS guy to show up and deliver my new copy of Mac OS 10.4. They tried to deliver it yesterday but Jenn was asleep and I was at work, so today I made sure to be up by 10 since the note they left said it would be delivered between 10:30 and 2, and now it's 1:36. Still waiting. So to kill time I'll write for a moment.

As far as music I like goes, it's been a surprisingly good year. You have to consider that a lot of my favorite bands and what have you are broken up or people are dead, things like that. This last eight months or so has seen new releases from Tom Waits, Mike Doughty, Mark Sandman (a nice little boxed set of unrealeased Morphine and Treat Her Right cuts, as well as a DVD, at a time I was sure I'd never hear anything new from the dearly departed Sandman), Beck, Nirvana, the Eels, and my boy Brent J. Dickey also gave me a wonderful box set he made of his old tracks he'd collected for the last eight years or however long. So I've got a lot of great music to listen to, and that's nice.

Hey, I just saw that big brown truck pull up outside. He's backing into driveway. That seems insane. The whole truck is brown, but the roof is white. I still can't figure that one out.

Alright, so now I want to get this new shit installed, so I'll make this quick. You ever know someone who is incredibly boring in that they will only talk about one thing? Like someone that only ever talks about their job or something, and seems to have absolutely nothing else to talk about? That's kind of how I view our president. Everything is "freedom, democracy," and if he's in a sticky situation, "9/11." It doesn't matter what the topic is, his speech is always peppered with the same old shit and it seems more than a little insincere. I'm a big fan of both freedom and democracy, don't get me wrong, but there may be other things to say at times. The pope dies? The 60th anniversary of VE day? Anything, everything, always the same talking points. I'm sure I had more to say about this, but I've got this new copy of Tiger to install so I'm going to shut up and get on to things that actually matter to me. Namely gadgetry.
