It's all the talk, this deal with Trent Lott saying if the rest of the country had followed his home state of Mississippi's lead and voted for racist separationist cracker Strom Thurmond for president in '48 we wouldn't have had all these problems in the first place. And I suppose it would be easy to say, "So he's saying that all our country's problems were caused by allowing blacks to vote and to be a part of society?" And if it would be easy to say that, it would also be easy to say, "Jesus, do we really want this backward ass honkey to be the senate majority leader?" But it's also as easy to say, "Well there is a chance that old Trent was just being cordial, you know, issuing a little praise to a hundred year old cocksucker that should have retired or been voted out years ago, just saying something nice to the old man before he lays down for that dirt nap that has been a loooooooong time coming. He didn't really mean anything by it, just said the wrong thing." Of course then you could also easily look at Trent Lott's record of being a dumb backward redneck and see that this is not the first time he's associated himself with these segregationist beliefs. Plus he's from Mississippi, so he's got that going against him. And speaking of which, wouldn't you think his fellow statesmen, if there are any that aren't also backward racist hicks, would take issue with the fact that Lott said that Mississippi was proud to vote for Thurmond back in 1948, as though this was an example the rest of the country should have followed. Do other Mississippian's feel good about being lumped into the "backward hick" category by the man they elected to represent them? Or do they even know about it? I don't imagine many of them have read articles about it in the paper, on account of them not being able to read in Mississippi and all. But I digress, the point here is not simply to make fun of people from the south because it's far too easy and I could go on for days like this. The point is, should this Lott character actually be the leader of the Senate? I say no, and not for the reason that he may or may not be a backward ass racist redneck cracker. The reason I give is that HE IS A FUCKING MORON. You're a goddamn Senator, Trent! In public! Whether you have these views or whether you're being folksy is not the issue here, the issue is that you are too fucking stupid to think to yourself, "Hmmm, people might not think it's cute for me to say the country would be better off if we had voted for a separationist 54 years ago," and no one who is obviously that dumb should be allowed to be the leader of the Senate, period!
You know what else is sad, while I'm thinking about it? I'll bet if they wheeled Strom up and ran him for another term, those nitwits in South Carolina would have probably elected him again. The South. Whaddaya gonna do, huh? I know, I say a lot of mean shit about the south, but apparently that wouldn't prevent me from being Senate Majority Leader, so I still feel okay about it.
