Yesterday was our one year anniversary. I've never had a one-year anniversary with a girl before, so it's a pretty momentous event. Prior to this, my longest relationship had been eleven months.
A year ago when I met Jenn, I would have never thought that in a year we'd be celebrating our anniversary in Seattle, which would be a mere three hour drive from our home in Portland. Life is crazy sometimes, but it's good. It's really good.
So we went to Seattle, and saw the city on the cheap. We found parking for $3 a block up from the waterfront. Walked up to the Westlake Center and took the monorail the Seattle Center. Wandered around, looked at the fountain with all the crazy ass kids splashing around in it. Took some pictures, gazed at the Space Needle and the Experience Music Project from the outside, looked at the sculptures. Then we Monorailed it back to downtown and walked back to the waterfront. We took a ferry ride over to Bainbridge Island, which was a beautiful little boat trip. Nice views of the city. It was fucking cold though. I figured Seattle would have pretty much the same weather as here, but nope. Cloudy and chilly most of the time. No sunshine. Gloomaroo. And that was fine, it was good not to be sweating like pigs, but I just wanted more light to get some better pictures. We walked around the island and talked and talked, and by the time we got back on the boat we were fucking beat. So tired and sore. We hoofed it back to the car, which seemed like a forever long walk. We decided we wanted to try to find some spot on Queen Anne Hill to get a good picture of the city with the Space Needle in the foreground, so we went driving. I didn't know where the hell I was going at all, but we finally found a spot and I snapped a few pictures. Of course, same old story, night shot, no tripod, my shaky hands, blurry pictures. Damnit. Oh well. It's not the pictures that matter, it's the fact that I got to spend a really nice day in a beautiful city with my lovely girlfriend of one year.
Last night:
Me: Wow, this means we've been together for 1/27th of my life.
Jenn: Yeah, well we've been together for 1/22nd of my life.
Me: Boy, then you've got a lot more invested in this relationship than I do.
Jenn, baby, I love you. Thanks for being my girlfriend and sticking with me for 1/27th of my life.
